St Julian’s and the north

Boat covers in St Julian’s & Portomaso

Many boats in St Julian’s belong to owners who live part of the year somewhere else. A fitted cover means your boat waits in Portomaso exactly as you left it — no dust, no sun damage, no salt-crusted deck when you get back.

Away from Malta for months? What your boat goes through in Portomaso

Portomaso Marina is the private marina at the heart of the Portomaso development, next to the Hilton in St Julian’s. It has been operating since 1999, holds around 110 boats, and many of its berths are tied to the apartments around it. A lot of those owners split their year between Malta and somewhere else, which means a lot of boats sit unused for long stretches — in winter, and often in summer too.

An enclosed marina keeps the swell out, but not the sun, the dust or the salt. Round the corner, Spinola Bay and Balluta have their own small boats and fishing craft on moorings. Whether your boat is a 20-metre motor yacht on a Portomaso berth or a day boat on a Spinola mooring, months without use do the same damage: faded upholstery, cracked varnish, greyed teak and a film of grime that takes days to clean.

The usual problems

What St Julian’s owners usually want

“I want to come back to a boat that’s ready to use”

A full cover keeps the decks, upholstery and helm clean and dry while you’re away. It comes off the day before you arrive.

“The cover has to look tidy in a residential marina”

Shrink wrap is shrunk tight to the frame — no flapping, no ropes, no sagging tarp. It looks deliberate rather than abandoned.

“My day boat lives on a mooring in Spinola Bay”

Smaller boats on moorings can be covered too. The cover is banded to the boat and vented, so it stays put through the winter.

The approach

A cover that suits where the boat lives

In a residential marina, how the cover looks matters to the neighbours as well as to you. We frame it to follow the lines of the boat, keep seams straight and finish the edges cleanly, so it reads as a proper fitted cover rather than a tarpaulin thrown over.

We can time the removal to your travel: tell us when you land and the cover is off and away, the boat aired, the day before. If you want the boat ready to use, we can coordinate with whoever cleans and services her so the handover is seamless.

  • Fitted to the lines of the boat
  • Tidy finish for a residential marina
  • Removal timed to your arrival
  • Works with your cleaner or skipper
  • Covers for mooring boats too
  • Vented for summer heat

Before we quote

We scan it first. Then the price doesn't move.

In Portomaso we survey on the berth, by arrangement with the marina office. We measure the vessel, work out the frame, the film area, the vents and the doors — and the number you get back is the number you pay. No provisional sums, no “subject to access”.

Flying out next week, back in June. Boat’s in Portomaso — can it be covered while I’m away?
Yes. Full cover, tidy finish for the marina, and we’ll have it off and away the day before you land.
That’s exactly what I need.

Finished covers

What a proper cover looks like.

Tight, smooth, framed clear of the boat and welded into one skin. This is the standard every St Julian’s cover is fitted to.

Questions from St Julian’s

Shrink wrap in St Julian’s: common questions

Can you shrink wrap a boat in Portomaso Marina?

Yes, with the marina’s agreement. We arrange timing and access with the marina office and fit the cover on the berth.

Will a cover look out of place in Portomaso?

A properly fitted shrink wrap cover is tight, smooth and clean-edged — it looks like a deliberate cover, not a tarp. We keep the finish tidy because the neighbours see it every day.

Can you take the cover off before I fly in?

Yes. Give us your arrival date and we’ll have the cover off and the film taken away the day before.

Do you cover small boats on Spinola Bay moorings?

Yes. Day boats and fishing craft on moorings can be wrapped afloat. We need safe access and the go-ahead to work on the mooring.
